Amina could never see her mother ever again. The day she got accepted to Princeton, she had hugged her mother tight, the huge envelope in hand. Her mother had said how proud she was. Someone from their family was actually going to an American Ivy League school—what an honor! Her mother could not wait to tell their family back in Sierra Leone because everything she had done was worth it.
 

JAMILYN KIRSTEN TAYLOR and her writing are influenced by a variety of cultures and peoples. Her parents and extended family are from Sierra Leone. She was born in London, England.Moving and experiencing a range of places has been a big part of her life, and she has lived in numerous American states including Florida, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Michigan, and New York. Jamilyn currently lives in Mt. Vernon, New York. She is now in her final undergraduate year at Sarah Lawrence College studying creative writing and literature. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, volunteering in her community, and spending time outdoors.
